Pistes
The mountain slopes total over 45 km of runs and have a lasting snow
cover of over 1.5 m from mid-December to the end of April. The runs vary
in degree of difficulty and are suitable for skiers of all abilities:
Beginners: there are gentle nursery slopes and a high
standard of English speaking instruction. Soon you'll be heading for
the wonderful blue pistes of the Sitnyakovo, reached after a spectacular
ride by chair-lift.
Intermediates: the well-planned lift system includes
the 3-mile, six-person Yastrebets gondola, which opens up a wealth of
enjoyable runs, ranging from wide sunny boulevards in the Moussala basin,
to scenic looping trails through the trees.
Advanced: there is the testing World Cup run, one
of the more challenging pistes in the Yastrebets area, or excellent
skiing through the trees and off-piste. The resort offers cross-country
and biathlon tracks together with the cross-country tuition tracks.
Ski across a wide range of terrain and enjoy the absolute silence of
the mountain wilderness, the brilliant whiteness of fresh powder, a
cloudless sky and the sweet smell of pine.
The runs are grouped into 3 areas:
Sitnyakovo - Martinovi Baraki: 8 ski-runs
The higher, more difficult ski runs are used for slaloming, while on
the lower slopes, there are special runs for beginners.
Yastrebets: 3 ski-runs
The cabin Gondola lift, with a capacity of 1200 persons per hour, takes
23 minutes to reach to the peak of Yastrebets (2369 m). The length of
the route is 4827 m. When you get off of the lift you can see the highest
peaks of the Rila mountain range - Moussala, Malka Moussala, Irichek,
Deno and Aleko.
Markoudjika: 4 ski-runs
This area is the highest of the resort, reaching 2550 m above sea level
Piste maps can be viewed here: Full, Zoom 1 and Zoom 2.
Night skiing can be enjoyed every evening from 5pm to 10pm. If you have
never tried it before, skiing under flood lights is a delightful experience,
especially in February and March when the evening temperatures begin to
rise a little. Even the ride up the chairlift at night is magical, the
lights of houses and towns twinkling in the distance.
Whatever time you choose to ski, you can rest assured that all the runs
have been designed to the highest standards, including international markings
and multilingual signs. They are maintained in perfect condition with
eight snow cannons ensuring optimum snow cover - snowmaking and good grooming
can change a good day on the slopes into a great day.
A ski patrol provides a round-the-clock emergency service. It is organized
in four, fully equipped teams with recourse to a helicopter if needed.

With a total length of 1240 m and a vertical drop of 320 m, the run has been designed to satisfy both beginners and advanced riders. The lower section of the run is suitable for beginners; the upper and middle sections are good for advanced snowboarders. The Rotata can be accessed via its own drag or a four-seat chair lift.
Winter brings many snowmobilers to Borovets to revel in the dry powder snow of the Rila mountains. The resort offers kilometers of breathtaking groomed and ungroomed trails in age-old pine forest.
